Property details

Robertstown Self Catering Cottages are located in the rural village of Robertstown near Naas in County Kildare. A gentle 5-minute stroll will take you to the village of Robertstown which is built along the Grand Canal. In the village you will find three pubs, two of which have music on Saturdays & Sundays and  one has music also on Thursdays nights. There is a mini-market in the village where you can buy provisions including a delicatessen, newspapers, a bottle of wine etc. There is a Traditional Irish grocery where you can get (well almost) everything from a needle to an anchor and those mentioned above! We also have a Post office and the ubiquitous Chinese Take away.

The cottages themselves are two bedroomed.

The Kitchen, dining room and lounge area are open plan and lead to a patio area and garden overlooking the tranquil waters of the Grand Canal. This is securely fenced so children can play safely and happily. At one end of the site we have a play area with a swing, see-saw, slide and climbing rope.

Each cottage has a large wet room with a shower, wash hand basin and toilet and an second WC. Our cottages are all ground floor level and suitable for wheelchair users. Please talk to Karen about your needs if you are a wheelchair user so that we can ensure that we provide what you want for your stay.

Our bedrooms are as follows: One double bedroom with a King Size bed & a twin bedroom with two 6ft single beds. All of our beds are dressed with crisp cotton bedlinen, a non-Allergenicfoam duvet and non-Allergenic pillows on each bed (two pillows per person). A throw is draped over each bed. We have extra wool blankets in each bedroom in case you need extra warmth. We also provide a fluffy cotton bath sheet and a hand towel for each guest staying.

All of our bedrooms can be adapted for you, our guest, so if you need two double rooms or two twin rooms we can arrange the cottage in this way for you. However these arrangements are by request only and 48hours notice prior to arrival is required.

For our younger guests we can provide a cot and high chair and again this is on request ONLY. We ask that you take along your own bedlinen for the baby cot as we have found over our many years of experience (and sleepless nights) that smaller guests prefer their own familiar smells around them when they are on holidays. But if you forget then we always have spare sets of baby cot bedlinen.

Our Recetion office is open each day Monday, Tuesday & Friday from 9am to 3pm. Wednesday from 9am to 5.30pm and Thursday from 9am to 12noon. Saturday and Sunday we are onsite when guests are arriving departing. If you need us after the times listed all you need to do is telephone the us and the contact details are listed in the Information Folder in each cottage.

In the reception office we have so much information for our guests from things to do locally, in Wicklow, Dublin, and further afield. we also sell post cards and photos (framed and unframed) of the locality and surrounding areas

o0 Historical Sites 0o

• Hill of Allen – between Robertstown and Milltown. It was the seat of the great Irish Warrior Fionn MacCumhaill commander of Ná Fianna and his sons Óisin and Fergus. This folly or tower was built on top of the hill by Sir Gerald Alymer. The stones in the staircase of the tower were quarried in Edenderry and brought to Robertstown by boat and then carted to Allen.

• Lullymore – is a small mineral island that rises from the Bog of Allen and is about 9000 years old!

Fr Moores Well – Located on the road from Milltown to Kildare town. This is one of the best-known holy wells in Kildare Fr.John Moore, was born in Rathbride and is buried at the old cemetery in Allen (beside Mulrennan’s Shop). He was ordained in Maynooth and appointed as curate to Allen in 1803. Over the years pilgrims travelled from far and near for his cures.

• St Brigids Well - Is regarded as a 'healing well' and again thronged by pilgrims where healing liturgies are often held. St Bridget's well is situated near the Irish National Stud at Tully in Kildare town.

• Kildare Cathedral - St. Brigid, was born in 453 A.D., and is one of the three most famous Irish saints, along with St. Patrick and St. Columcille. She then founded a monastery on the edge of the Curragh Plains near a stand of oak trees on land given to her by the King of Leinster. The settlement flourished and gave the county its name Cill Dara – “ Church of the Oak”. St Brigid was a deeply religious person, even as a child, she was the first woman who engaged in church work in Ireland. She then built her church originally in wood but was later burnt down and replaced by a stone structure. As a place of interest both historically and religiously, Kildare Cathedral is second only to that of the Cathedral Church of Armagh. St Brigids feast day is 1st February and on this day each house hold places a St Brigids cross, which is traditionally made from reeds on the Curragh, in their house to protect it from fire.

• Moone High Cross – is near the village of Moone in the south of Kildare. In the ruins of a medieval church and legend has it that the cross was erected to St Columcille who founded Moone Abbey in the 6th Century.

Ballymore Eustace High Cross – situated outside Naas on the Wicklow border. Close to the site of an old Protestant church is the present day St. John’s Church of Ireland, which was built in 1820. It houses a FitzEustace effigy dated to the early sixteenth century and an ancient font.
